It was back in 2022. I was sitting in my home office and looking for the inspiration. The idea was there, yet I felt stuck on how to begin. I searched for the quotes. The one that made me smirk was from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” For several years, that’s exactly how I felt. When one says: “Transitions are constant…”, this I can totally relate to. And yes, this means that we often have to face difficult periods in life. Have you ever wondered during these times – “Why me again?!” We are forced to adapt and be someone else… But wait, what if we dared to be ourselves instead of trying to emulate other people? Yes, it does feel scary at times, but it is so much more rewarding than trying to fit into someone else’s mould. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe, and sometimes, you may not see it or feel it, but there is a lot that you can be. You are unique…dot. And it is worthwhile to find your true self.
Find Your True Self: You Are Unique
You are unique, special, intelligent…add your adjective here. In any moment of doubt, just stop… you might be held back by something that you cannot express, grasp or see. This is made of your expectations and fears that you have developed for years. These thoughts and feelings actually limit what you can achieve in life. They hold you back from becoming who you really are or can be. We all have talents and skills, and there is no doubt that you have yours to share with the world. Being strong is a challenge, but more powerful is to realise that you are strong enough to find your true self and handle any challenge that comes your way. Even when it feels like there is nothing else you can do but give up. Bravery is powerful. And it is part of who you really are, too!
You Are Not What The Others Think Of You
I watch my son grow. He is my inspiration. He is four years old now, asking “why” all the time and getting impatient to understand this world. When we grow and figure out who we are, it is so easy to get caught up in what others think of us. Getting concerned about what a friend may think or say when they find out that you have different tastes, thoughts, and ideas. Or maybe even strangers. Judging may come very naturally to some people. At the end of the day, everyone has an opinion. And some may even feel so strongly about those opinions that they will try to convince you to share them, too. But you know what? It’s okay if someone doesn’t like how unique or different you are. It may even make you feel uncomfortable. But at the same time, it does not mean that there is no one out there who will love everything about you the way you are. Remember, there are things in life that are out of our control. What is more important, there are things we can control. So choose wisely – find your true self and be yourself! Not someone else. Don’t put the mask on you to pretend to be a version of yourself that you think others want or need from you. Be the real you – the person who wakes up every morning and wants to make the most of this one life they’ve been given.
Live In The Moment
One of the biggest challenges these days is that we often live in the future. We are caught up in thinking about what might happen next or how we could make the situation better. This is a very helpful mindset when it comes to planning out your life, the next steps in your education or your career. But it can be extremely harmful, too, if it causes you to miss out on enjoying the moments where you are right now.
We are so busy thinking about what is next that we forget to be present. But in the end, the only thing that matters is the present moment. All the present moments that we live create the tapestry of our life. When you live in the present moment, you are in touch with yourself and aware of what is happening around you, and this gives you an opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.
When was the last time you were truly present? When did you last take a moment to stop and appreciate what you had in front of you? Has it been a while? Feel the difference by making an effort to start living in the moment.
Develop Empathy for Others
But wait, what happens next if everyone accepts their own uniqueness? It is important to remember that everyone is unique in their own way. We all have something special that makes us different from everyone else. But what comes after is crucial.
It’s important to recognise and appreciate this uniqueness and develop empathy for others. Empathy is vital to understanding and appreciating the uniqueness of others. We teach children how to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and recognise their unique perspective. This simply fosters understanding and appreciation for the differences between us.
Unique, Special, Talented And Wonderful... Just You!
Don’t hold yourself back from being who you really can be: UNIQUE, SPECIAL, TALENTED and WONDERFUL… JUST YOU! Only then are you genuinely different. You can stand out from the crowd, find your true self and discover what makes you unique. And once you know that, it’s easier for you to be yourself.
